‘Amsicora’ shaft

‘Amsicora’ shaft (Montevecchio – Ponente – Arbus), inside the site of Telle, immersed in an evocative green valley, represents one of the finest examples of mining architecture. Although mining activity on this site dates back to 1878, the shaft was built only in 1915; its current appearance is a result of restructuring works carried out in 1938.
After little more than 150 years, the site ceased its activity in 1991, following a long occupation of galleries of ‘Amsicora’ shaft, which since then became a symbol of miners’ fights.
