Villanovaforru, archaeological park ‘Genna Maria’

Nuraghe ‘Genna Maria’

The archaeological park is located upon a hill surrounded by a lushing vegetation formed by pines, ilexes, local shrubs and junipers. The Nuragic complex consists of a nuraghe dating from 1350 B.C. and three towers built towards 1000 B.C., connected by curtain walls of hexagonal plan, describing a wide internal bailey. The structure was later surrounded by a towered, external rampart and by a village of huts. The complex of ‘Genna Maria’ has brought to light some precious fossil finds of Nuragic age, such as bread and vegetals, currently investigated by the Faculty of Genetics of the University of Cagliari.
