This Province has preserved lots of ancient trades, thanks to the skill and craft of the numerous enthusiasts and craftsmen guarding the ancient arts and trades. Their handicrafts are now an essential part of fairs and feasts.
As in the past, feasts represent a time for sharing and exchanging, but also a strong catalyst of specific features that can hardly be found together on other occasions.
Local craftsmanship is expressed in various forms and details, especially on particular occasions and events such as the Feast if the Borough, taking place in Sanluri in September; the biennial Sardinian knife show Arresojas, hosted in the ancient structures of Montevecchio mines in August; the Exhibition of Sardinian Craftsmanship in late August in Pabillonis, a borough known as ‘the village of pots’ (in Sardinian, sa bidda de is pingiadas) referring to local skill in earthenware manufacturing; the event Tebajus, still in August, focused on traditional tile manufacturing, an ancient trade typical of the centre of Segariu; the Cherry Fair taking place in June in the small town of Villacidro, where a number of local craftsmen gather for the occasion; finally, the Honey Fair in Montevecchio, where lots of craftsmen meet every year.
