‘Sant'Antonio’ shaft

‘Sant'Antonio’ shaft

‘Sant'Antonio’ shaft (Montevecchio - Levante - Guspini) is a fine towered structure with rectangular plan. Adorned by a medieval crenellation in Ghibelline style, with swallow-tailed merlons, it is embellished by four neo-Gothic, two-light ogee windows, enframed by four angular capitals. Its architectural style refers to a neo-Gothic revival spreading through Europe between the end of 1800 and the beginning of 1900.
Today, the shaft is connected to the Anglo-Sardinian gallery, whose excavation works started in 1852; it was one of the first ones to be involved in mining research. Open to visitors, upon booking, the Anglo-Sardinian gallery invites to an exciting underground exploration.
