Vivere la campagna
The site of Piccalinna (Montevecchio - Levante - Guspini) is the oldest within the mining area; it was built in a special architectural style inspired to French Art Nouveau, in natural stone of different size and colour. Symbolizing mining activity of the whole site, the shaft of San Giovanni, about 200 m deep, once connected a good six galleries (or levels) to ensure dewatering from the entire site of ‘Levante’.
The headframe is adjacent to the shaft, on the right. Also, the winder and compressor house, on the left, is worth visiting; the imposing machinery it guards is still intact.
