Villanovaforru churches

The rural shrine of Santa Marina

Inside the village is the parish church of San Francesco, raised in the 17th century, whose square-plan bell tower was built in 1912. Its nave is covered by a wooden roof, supported by three pointed arches. On the left are three chapels built in 1600 along with the presbytery and the chorus. Referring to the same period was a wooden altar, replaced in 1787 by a marble altar with antependium, table, tabernacle, three steps and ciborium. Another religious edifice is the rural shrine of Santa Marina, whose original plan dates back to 1280. In 1583, period of Spanish domination, the church was restored and modified, then rebuilt in 1686, as confirmed by an inscription on a stone set under the lintel.
