Façade of the rural church of Saint Anthony of Padua

Only two ancient churches out of the original seven have survived: the parish church of San Giorgio and the rural church of Saint Anthony of Padua. The first one, dedicated to Saint George, martyr of Cappadocia, was built starting from the 14th century in several construction stages. The edifice has got a single nave, covered by a barrel vault and enriched by five chapels. In particular, one of them is dedicated to the Virgin of Graces; dating back to the 16th century, it is decorated by a table divided into sixteen small paintings on wood, illustrating the mysteries of the Holy Rosary. Also worth noticing is the altar of the chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, the inner door, the marble pulpit and the high altar of 1824. The rural church of Saint Anthony of Padua was built between the 12th and the 13th century in Romanesque style. Only the side walls and the apse were left from the original plan. Inside the edifice is a well where an ancient healing spring once flowed; it can be accessed from an opening set into a stairway.
