Church of Santa Maria Angiargia during the festival

The parish church of San Michele Arcangelo, the main church of the village, was built at the end of the 16th century, while the bell tower dates back to the 17th-century. Inside are three wooden statues of the Neapolitan school of the 16th century and a polyptych portraying the Virgin of Carmine, by Pietro Cavaro. Interestingly, the rural church of Santa Maria Angiargia, located outside the inhabited centre, is immersed in a so-called ‘sacred wood’, owing its name to an ancient belief imposing the utmost protection of the vegetation, under penalty of certain misfortune. Probably, the church was once dedicated to the cult of waters, as suggested by the sacred well of ‘Su Angiu’, located in the surroundings. Also inside the village are the church of San Rocco, of the 17th century, and the church of San Sebastiano.
