La diffusione dell’allevamento in Sardegna, in particolare ovino, caprino e suino, trova in parte origine nelle continue invasioni d’oltremare che spingevano gli abitanti a rifugiarsi verso l’interno. L’area della provincia del Medio Campidano, dove abbondano i pascoli pianeggianti e zone montane, ab antiquo frequentate da porcari e caprai, non manca di esprimere l’antica tradizione dell’attività agropastorale.
